Alaska SEED System for Early Education Development

The University of Alaska provides several educational paths for individuals seeking credentials or degrees in early childhood education.

  • University of Alaska Southeast
  • The Early Childhood Education Program at UAS, part of the Center for Teacher Education, offers a range of certificates and degrees including:

    • Degrees: AAS, MAT, and M.Ed.
    • Certificates: Child Development Associate and ECE
    • Endorsement: ECE
    • Professional Credential: ECE

  • University of Alaska Anchorage
  • The Early Childhood Program at UAA blends theory and practice in the preparation of early childhood educators who can deliver quality care and education for young children from birth through age eight years. Within the Early Childhood Program there are four options:

    • Early Childhood Development Certificate
    • Associate of Applied Science in Early Childhood Development
    • Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Education
    • Master of Education, Master Teacher Specialty Option in Early Childhood

  • University of Alaska Fairbanks
  • Bachelor of Arts in Child Development and Family Studies designed for early childhood administrators, teachers, or trainers who are looking to expand upon their A.A.S degree. The program offers an emphasis on preschool curriculum, administration, and family studies.

    A 30-credit certificate in early childhood can be completed in one year. The A.A.S. degree in early childhood is a two-year program that can lead to state certification as an Early Childhood Education Associate II. It includes 30 hours of specialization in early childhood development.

    An 18-credit minor in ECE is available upon completion of ECE 245 Childhood Development and 15 additional approved ECE credits. In addition, numerous special topics courses are offered each semester which appeal to non-degree students.
